Temporal Analysis of Rice Yield and Climatic Trends in Pakistan

چکیده
Climate in its spatial and temporal inconsistency is one of the chief causes for determining agricultural productivity in a region. Climatic impacts should be kept into mind while developing long term agricultural policies. This study aimed at investigating the change in rice production in Pakistan from 1989-2009 using the GIS techniques and the impacts of climate change on rice production. Pakistan is very rich in the production of rice and a lot of foreign exchange is earned through exporting rice. The results showed that rice production increased in Pakistan in all the four provinces of Pakistan. The highest percentage increase was observed in Punjab. However, when the country faced a drought after 2000, the production in KPK and Sindh was decreased which again attained its increasing level in the following years. The correlation of climatic variables with rice production variables indicated a significant relation and the regression analysis revealed that high level of variance in rice production could be explained by climatic parameters under study. This aspect could be linked with some other possible best options to increase the rice production to a higher level in order to ensure sustainable rice production.

Precipitation is a climatic elements that have temporal - spatial distribution. In this research database of Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) with a resolution 0.5×0.5 degree for 50 year is used, that was constituted with dimensions of 12800*600. Temporal data are on the columns and pixels (spatial data) located on the rows. The results show an increasing trend in spring and fall ...

This study is aimed at estimating suspended sediment load in watersheds using hydro-climatic factors with the intent to determine spatial and temporal variations of sediment yield in Qarah Su drainage basin, Ardebil Province. For this study, data from seven rain gauge and hydrometric stations during a 22-year period were used. The research was based on statistical regression analysis between va...
متن کاملRice Yield Distribution and Risk Assessment in South Asian Countries: A Statistical Investigation
In the last decades, rice yields in South Asian countries grew tremendously in one hand and a noticeable yield fluctuation on the other. The objective of this study was to examine the rice yield distributions, estimate yield risks at country level, and compare risks between five countries namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Anderson Darling (AD) test was applied to t...
متن کاملImpact of spatial-temporal variations of climatic variables on summer maize yield in North China Plain
Summer maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the dominant crops in the North China Plain (NCP). Its growth is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal variation of climatic variables, especially solar radiation, temperature and rainfall. The WOFOST (version 7.1) model was applied to evaluate the impact of climatic variability on summer maize yields using historical meteorological data from 1961 to 20...

This analysis was conducted on 31 synoptic stations in Iran. Initially, the Mann-Kendall test was administered in order to analyse the trend of alterations of these two components over time and the results suggest that 16% of the stations show significant relationship with annual precipitation (positive and negative). More stations showed significant relationships between sunspots and minimum a...
